BAND-

students will study a variety of quality wind band literature in preparation for concerts, festivals, competitions, solo/ensemble festivals, football/basketball games, parades, as well as other school and community events. Students in this course also participate in marching band in the fall of each year.

This is a co-ed musical group open to all men and to sophomore, junior, and senior women. Students participate in the musical theater production, winter concert, variety show, spring concert, state large group contest and commencement.

FBLA – Future Business Leaders of America

FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. It is the second-largest student organization in the country. Eagle Grove High School’s chapter was begun in 1954 and is the longest-running chapter in the state of Iowa.

Members take part in seminars, conferences, business competitions with other school districts as well as volunteer for community service. FBLA helps prepare students who may be interested in pursuing business-related careers. FBLA also helps students learn more about citizenship and helps them become more prepared when entering the workforce. If you are interested in joining FBLA, contact Mr. Putney.

FCA – The Fellowship of Christian Athletes

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is touching millions of lives…one heart at a time. Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high, and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. FCA is the largest interdenominational, school-based, Christian sports organization in America. FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering, and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ.

The FCA Vision – To see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of athletes and coaches.
The FCA Mission – To present to athletes and coaches, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church.

FCCLA – Family, Career and Community Leaders of America

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education in public and private school through grade 12. FCCLA offers intra-curricular resources and opportunities for students to pursue careers that support families. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

FFA – Future Farmers of America

Organized in 1928, the Future Farmers of America brought together students, teachers, and agri-business to solidify support for agricultural education. In 1988, the name of the organization was changed to The National Organization of FFA to represent the growing diversity of agriculture. Therefore, FFA is not just for future farmers but for anyone interested in agricultural education. The FFA operates on local, state, and national levels. Student members belong to chapters organized at the local school level. Agricultural education instructors serve as chapter advisors. Chapters are organized under state associations headed by an advisor and executive secretary, often employees of the state department of education. States conduct programs and host annual conventions.

iJAg

Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates (iJAG) is a graduation enhancement program focusing on personal and career development and future readiness. The class will participate in a variety of classroom activities, assignments, exploration, guest speakers, mentorship, and guidance. Each member will become part of a student leadership organization and have several opportunities to further unlock and enhance their potential.

NHS – National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school and middle-level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character (and Citizenship for NJHS). These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929.

To be eligible for membership, students must attain a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. A 5 member Faculty Council looks at the volunteer service, leadership activities, club, and sports participation, as well as work that prospective members self-report. Input and recommendations from the entire faculty are solicited.

This evidence of leadership, service, and character is reviewed by the faculty council and a majority vote of the council is required for the selection of new members. Induction of new junior and senior class members is held in the fourth quarter. After induction, members of the Eagle chapter at Eagle Grove High School must maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA.

SPANISH CLUB

About – The Spanish Club is open to students of all four grades interested in participating in activities related to Hispanic culture and the Spanish language. The club elects four officers in the fall and these students direct the club’s activities throughout the year.

Benefits – The club provides an opportunity for students of different grades and backgrounds to meet, socialize and develop friendships.

Events – Possible activities include the following: cooking and sampling foods of Latin America and Spain, viewing films, dancing, fundraising, corresponding with pen-pals, taking mini-excursions to local restaurants, playing games, and most importantly, having fun! Advisor- Olinca Padierna

STUDENT COUNCIL

Eagle Grove Student Council represents the Associated Student Body of Eagle Grove Community Senior High School by promoting the worthy ideals of scholarship, citizenship, sportsmanship, extra-curricular participation, service, and cooperation. Our members will be working with our student body to educate, advocate, and volunteer to help support Iowa’s foster families. Students are eligible for student council when they complete an application in the spring of each school year and are elected by the student body. The student council meets on the second Wednesday of every month.
